“For it is God at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” —Philippians 2:13

Hometown: Memphis, TN, but moving to Nashville in August

College: Undergrad at University of Evansville, grad school at Georgia College in Milledgeville

Degree: Just finished my MFA in creative writing

Birthday: March 14th (Pi Day!)

Dream job: opening and running Mon Petit Cupcakery and Hair Braiding

Hobbies: Crafts, running, using my phone as a phone, experimental baking, portmanteaux, bargain hunting, books

Favorite book: That’s ridiculous. (Faulkner, Harry Potter, The Poisonwood Bible, everything in the second half of American lit)

Favorite color: Purple and jewel tones

Interesting fact: My love language is driving really long distances to see people for really short periods of time.

Moments where I encounter God: Music, music, music. Hard wind, hard rain. The Holy Sonnets.

Why I wanted to be on staff: I’m so excited to have found a place where children can experience God in a context that includes their whole families! So often kids go to summer camp and come home to a completely different world, but this is a chance for some of the love and comfort they feel at camp to come home with them. Any way I can serve that cause is a great way to spend the summer.

What I am most looking forward to this summer: I can’t wait to share the joy and love I have for camp in a new context. I’m a rookie here at the LEC, but I’m thrilled to adapt my knowledge of my home camp to the needs of this one. I especially love leading worship, teaching and making crafts, and hair braiding. :)

Anything else? I am short and left-handed, so the world wasn’t built for me, but it’s made me really good at improvising… and climbing. I know all the words to every song.*

*Please do not test me on this.

Meet the Staff: Katie

“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.”

-Ephesians 1:18-19

Hometown: Dyersburg, TN

College: University of Tennessee Chattanooga – GO MOCS!

Degree: BA Chemistry

Birthday: June 28th (and I get to spend it with you guys!)

Dream job: Missionary medical doctor and later open up my own pancake restaurant

Hobbies: Soccer, traveling, playing with kids, coffee dates, making s’mores and

pancakes (or waffles – I don’t discriminate), stargazing, running, telling puns.

Favorite book: The Irresistible Revolution by Shaine Claiborne

Favorite colors: Blue or green (AKA half my closet)

Interesting fact: With red hair and blue eyes, I make up less than 1% of the population. Call me endangered.

Moments where I encounter God: I honestly experience God the most through water and laughter. Feeling water and knowing the intricacy of its form as well as its renewal in baptism is amazing to me, and I love laughter because it is the most tangible way I witness and experience joy.

Why I wanted to be on staff: I want to share the love, the joy, and the peace I have within my heart with each of you who will be here this summer. We are all one family in Christ, and I love seeing that lived out. So get to know me while you’re here!

What I am most looking forward to this summer: I experienced true community and fellowship for the first time at camp. It is such a vulnerable and liberating place to be, and I believe that you can learn so much about yourself through scripture, worship, and your relationships with other people in this place. I am excited to facilitate that here at the LEC and experience that again with everyone who comes this summer.

Anything else? I love high fives, and I really like knowing people’s names. Can’t wait to meet you all!!
