Go. How can such a small word have so much power and generate so much fear? The truth be told; I would much rather stay. I love comfort, security, and checklists. These things give me a sense of control. When I am in control I feel at peace, sort of.
Time and time again God has shown me that I am not in control, it is just an illusion. Last fall I was called to leave the security of everything I knew and start a life away from all of my friends, family, and support network. A place that is very different from a place I would have chosen, but one that has shown itself to be just what I have needed time and time again.
As I look at this passage of scripture I can’t help but wonder if Jesus was tempted, even for a moment, to step aside and not fulfill the “go” before him. It strikes me that he was doing good things at the time, but God had bigger plan.
There have been plenty of times I have missed God’s calling because I was too busy doing good things or to sacred to step outside of my comfort zone. Go can be terrifying. It can shake you to your core, but it is not as terrifying as staying. When God calls us to go He provides. He provides in ways that we never thought possible and often those provisions reach so much further than just us.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, give us ears to hear your words, hearts that are willing and open to do what you say, and the courage and strength to go where you lead us. Amen.
1. Where is God calling you to go today?
2. What is stopping you from going where God is leading you?
3. What one small step can you make today to move in the direction God is calling you to go?
